Every May, Lyon changes its face. Les Grandes Locos and La Sucrière transform into the epicenters of a certain idea of the party — demanding, curious, open. The 23rd edition of Nuits Sonores, from May 13 to 17, 2026, was no exception. If anything, it pushed the boundaries a little further.
Five days. Nearly 200 artists. A lineup built around six major thematic axes that together map out where electronic music stands globally right now. From British rave heritage to the bubbling vitality of South American scenes, via the unmissable figures of continental club culture: Nuits Sonores 2026 delivered on every promise.
A Lineup That Speaks for Itself
The programming said everything. On one side, legends: Leftfield, 808 State, The Sabres of Paradise — names that forged the DNA of British techno and house in the 90s, brought back to locate the roots of a culture still very much alive. On the other, artists who define the present: Amelie Lens, Rødhåd, Ben Klock, Four Tet, Carl Craig & Seth Troxler, and Sama' Abdulhadi, each carrying their own vision, their own distinct sonic territory.
But what may have stood out most in this edition was the space given to emerging scenes from Latin America. Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile — artists often less visible in Europe, but whose energy and creativity serve as a timely reminder: electronic music belongs to no one, and it grows wherever there is desire.
Les Grandes Locos and La Sucrière: Two Temples, One Spirit
The two flagship venues of the 2026 edition deserve closer attention. Les Grandes Locos, a former railway workshop converted into a cultural space, asserts its monumental scale with an industrial sobriety perfectly suited to techno. The nave, the concrete, the glass roofing — everything contributes to that feeling of dancing inside the guts of a city in motion.
La Sucrière, on the Confluence side, plays a different score: more malleable, more adaptable, with its esplanade on the Rhône offering suspended moments between two in the morning and the first light. It is in these in-between hours that Lyon reveals its true electronic temperament — discreet on the surface, radical in experience.
